        How to Remove Interior Walls

        Highlights:

        Step 1: Check for Obstructions

        Punch a hole with a hammer into the wall, pull off a piece of drywall and check for any electrical or other obstructions.

        Step 2: Remove the Drywall

        With a six inch blade in a reciprocating saw, make a vertical cut from ceiling down (Image 1).

        Score the ceiling with a utility knife to make it a clean break (Image 2).

        Pull the drywall off in pieces, using a crow bar when necessary (Image 3).

        Step 3: Remove the Studs

        Then, cut through the studs around the door with a reciprocating saw with a nine inch blade (Image 1).

        Knock out the studs with a hammer and pull out the header (Image 2).
