Measure the opening that you want to cover and cut a 2x4 to that length. Cut the material according to a pattern from a sewing book (Image 1).
Cut two long rectangular pieces that will hang as curtains (Image 2) and three smaller rectangular pieces with zigzag edges for the valances, cutting the pieces wide enough to hem the edges
With a sewing machine, hem the ends of the pieces so they won’t fray (Image 3).
After the curtains have a hem, feed curtain weights into the bottom edge of the curtains. This will weigh them down and keep them draping evenly.
With a staple gun, attach the long curtains to the 2x4, folding the top of the curtain over as you staple (Image 1).
Gather the zigzag edges of the smaller pieces and staple the ends to the 2x4 to make three equal swoops of fabric across the top (Image 2).
Screw the 2x4 into the ceiling of the theater. Use decorative gold rope ties to hold the curtain back.
