Step 1: Caulk and Paint

Caulk all of the seams along the trim work.

Fill in the reveal edge at the casing joints and the nail heads.

Put a coat of primer on the casing and on the fascia boards. Prime the drywall on the kitchen side of the new soffit.

When everything is dry, add a coat of paint to the casing and the fascia boards and paint the drywall to match the rest of the kitchen.

Step 2: Add Beadboard and Trim

Add beadboard to the cabinets by beginning on the end and nailing along the edges of the board. Work your way around the corner and continue nailing it in place all the way across the back (Image 1).

Add trim on the outside corner and inside corner where the cabinet meets the wall.

Go around to the front and nail up the cover for the toe kick that you notched for the air vent (Image 2).

Step 3: Secure the Countertop

Slide the register cover in place.

Set the new counter on top of the cabinets and secure the counter top to the cabinet mounting wings using 3” wood screws.

Step 4: Install the Light Fixture

Install the light fixtures, connecting the black to the black, white to the white and grounds together. Place trim kit over the wires and screw it in place (Image 1).

At the can light, take off the cover to the existing junction box and wire up the new lights. Again, black to black, white to white and ground to ground using wire nuts (Image 2).

Place the cover back on the junction box and reinstall the can light. Turn the breaker back on.
Tip: Some can lights are designed to be used in direct contact with fiberglass insulation and some are not. Be sure and read the manufacturer's instructions on your particular light before you being installation
