Step 1: Sketch a Layout
Sketch a layout onto the wall using the level and pencil.
Step 2: Attach the Drywall
Cut away the baseboard as needed for the columns, and install the 2 x 4 bracing. Cut drywall strips and attach them to cover the 2 x 4 bracing.
Step 3: Attach the Scrap Drywall
Attach the scrap drywall pieces horizontally on the vertical drywall to delineate the column from the base and to support the tiles.
Step 4: Place the Tile
Use a notched trowel to apply mastic to the drywall. Cut the tile to fit and apply it from the bottom up.
Step 5: Notch the Tile
Use a wet saw to notch the tile at areas where metal inserts will be added.
Step 6: Install the Tiles
Apply mastic and arrange the tiles. Install metal decorative tiles by adding mastic to the back and pressing them in place.
Step 7: Measure the Sides
Measure the sides so only the full pieces of tile are visible. Use the smaller pieces at the bottom.
Step 8: Add the Bullnose Pieces
Work up from the bottom, adding bullnose pieces on the side. Make the smaller pieces on the side align with the front edges.
