        Step 3: Locate the Studs

Start with pre-made overhead cabinets and two long, vertical cabinets like broom closets. To save money, buy salvage cabinets and paint them.

Locate and mark the studs behind the washer and dryer.

Measure the cabinets and mark the location of the top, left-hand unit.

Place the cabinets higher or lower, depending on your height, so that laundry supplies are within easy reach.

Step 4: Position and Install the First Cabinet

Pre-drill the top hole for the left-hand corner cabinet and screw it loosely into the stud.

Tip: Level the cabinet before you pre-drill and insert the second screw.

Place the left-hand vertical cabinet below the left corner cabinet, pre-drill holes and screw it into a stud.

Step 5: Install the Additional Cabinets

Mark the locations of the remaining overhead cabinets and attach each to a stud.

Place the right-hand vertical cabinet below the right-hand corner cabinet, pre-drill holes and attach it to a stud.

Step 6: Install Tension Rods, Pegboard and Baskets

Install tension rods inside one vertical cabinet for hanging clothes.

Glue pegboard to the other vertical cabinet for hanging laundry equipment

Attach wire baskets to the insides of the doors to hold small items.
