        Highlights:

Step 1: Cut Grooves in Planks

Using a router, cut a groove in the center of each edge of your 10” poplar planks.

        Step 2: Add Lath Strips

Once grooves are cut on the edges of every plank, slide in a 1/4” x 1” piece of lath on one side of each plank. This will create a tongue-and-groove system to lock each piece together.

TIP: Adding lath pieces between each board will account for movement of the wood caused by moisture in the space.

Step 3: Set Planks Against Wall

With the lath pieces added, set the planking against the wall starting at the bottom and working your way up. Fit the pieces together by pushing the lath of one plank into the routed edge of another plank.

Step 4: Secure Planks to Wall

Secure the fitted pieces to the wall with a framing nailer.

Step 5: Stain or Paint Planks

Once the planks are secured, stain or paint the desired color and let dry overnight.
