Each year President Jimmy Carter joins with Habitat for Humanity to build houses and help change lives. He picks up a hammer and adds his muscle and prestige to a week-long building effort entitled The Jimmy Carter Work Project. This year, thousands of volunteers join with the former President to build homes in Benton Harbor and Detroit, Michigan. This special documents that building effort, telling the stories of the many volunteers motivated to lend a hand and make a difference, and chronicling the new Habitat homeowners' effort to build their own and other's houses as well as new lives for themselves and their families.
